Meet Dr. Alan Baribeau

Dr. Baribeau is Board Certified in Ophthalmology by the American Academy of Ophthalmology, as well as Board Certified in Cataract Surgery by the American College of Eye Surgeons. He has been an active member for over 20 years in the following: the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the International Society of Refractive Surgeons, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the International Corneal Society and the American College of Eye Surgeons.

Dr. Baribeau has had a special interest in refractive surgery since it’s inception in 1980. His professional experience includes performing clear corneal sutureless cataract surgery, eyelid surgery, laser vision correction, laser skin resurfacing, BOTOX injections and general ophthalmic care. He has invented and patented several instruments which have dramatically improved the accuracy and safety of refractive surgery. He continues today to participate in research with the UTHSC, San Antonio in an effort to improve the overall safety and accuracy of laser vision correction.

In 1979, Dr. Baribeau opened his practice in San Antonio, Texas where he continues to serve his city with supreme quality care and the utmost compassion.

Personal Information
Dr. Alan D. Baribeau was born in Fargo, North Dakota, the third of seven children born to Vivian and Robert Baribeau. The family moved to Lusk, Wyoming when he was twelve and there he graduated from high school. Dr. Baribeau obtained a B.S. in Medicine from the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, South Dakota and a B.A. in Zoology from the University of Wyoming in Laramie, Wyoming.

Dr. Baribeau moved to San Antonio, Texas in order to finish his medical degree at the University of Texas Health Science Center. Following his graduation from UTHSC, he completed an internal medicine internship at Brook Army Hospital, Fort Sam Houston where he went on to serve three years in the United States Army as a general medical officer. From 1976-1979 Dr. Baribeau completed his residency specialty training in Ophthalmology at the University Of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas.

His personal interests include providing Missionary Eye Care and Surgery on a monthly basis to Mexico’s underserved; volunteering weekly at his church, Harvest Fellowship Church; long distance running (he’s a two time Boston Marathoner!); coaching sports with his grandchildren; and singing.
